Surface Studio 2 review: At the same time, the player seems needlessly thick. While the P7’s hardware looks like it takes a few cues from Apple, the touch-screen interface is entirely unique. There’s a stylus included for operating the resistive touchscreen, but we really had little trouble tapping the uniformly large interface elements with our fingers — which is good news, since there’s no convenient place to slip the stylus when it’s out of use, it’s meant to screw into a cap that can looped onto one end of the player, and we’d rather not. A better all-in-one PC twist.

iriver P7 review | What Hi-Fi?
A better all-in-one PC twist. Review Sections Review Specs. We appreciate a good bit of battery life iriver claims 7 hours of video playback and 4. The overall form is more pocket-friendly than the chunkier design of the Cowon O2feeling more like an Archos 5 with a shrunken screen. On one hand, iriver’s stark, minimal design prowess is at its height here. The included earbuds are, like with most players, pretty much worthless, quite uncomfortable, and seem designed for inexplicably large ears.
Unlike the iPod Touch’s smooth, swift, and responsive song lists, sorting through your music on the P7 requires patience and a precise touch on a slim graphical scroll bar. It’s a novel and fun approach to an interface, and while iriver isn’t packing in extensive functionality or connected information, it’s a far cry from surfing through a boring menu tree with irifer d-pad.
Power users and the patient-minded may be able to put up with the P7’s particular video requirements, but people looking for drag-and-drop simplicity should look elsewhere.
The P7’s headphone jack is on the right edge, along with irive hold switch, and a microSD memory slot covered by a plastic door. The majority of the P7 is operated using touch-screen control, however, you’ll find teeny, tiny buttons for power, menu, and volume on the top edge of the player.
The Bottom Line The Iriver P7 is like a beautifully crafted concept car with a frustrating lack of horsepower, but the price is irivr.
On the top there are volume buttons flush with the surface, that click when pressed, and a menu button denoted by a single small bump. Porsche’s sports car tech improves the new Cayenne SUV.
Software iriver calls the interface “like a magazine,” and it’s not hard to see why. Unfortunately, the biggest function we were looking forward to was the player’s biggest disappointment. In spite of our complaints about the sluggish, unfriendly design of the P7’s music menu navigation, the audio capabilities of the P7 are arguably the best feature of the device. Other than the power button on the top left and a hold switch on the right side, the player is controlled entirely by touch — a large improvement over the confusing dual and dueling interfaces of the iriver SPINN.
Just like the smaller-screened Samsung P3 or Iriver SPINN, we found ourselves spending extra time converting the videos we wanted to watch on the P7 using the included software. The included Windows client software is a tragedy of interface and doesn’t support video for some unapparent reason, while the Windows Media Player support seemed promising until Windows Media Player failed to sync anything into the right place.
You won’t find advanced features such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi on the P7, but its relatively low price and large, 4. Most functions are responsive and intuitive, with cross-fades between screens and large, obvious buttons to take you where you need to go.
Unfortunately, at times the player seems to forget itself, and requires a second tap to make a function happen. In irivsr, even the plastic carton the P7 is packaged in looks like a design student’s graduate project. Best MP3 Players for There are also settings for bookmarking, looping, or saving files to a custom playlist.
No needless curves, wasted buttons or confusing bits, just a simple slab of recycling-friendly metal, with plastic on the ends and a screen in the middle.
If you plan on storing a large music collection on the P7, prepare for some navigation frustration. The iRiver P7 music player is just the right size, enabling you to fire it up in almost any location. We’re not expecting iriver to be magical and support every codec on the planet, but there is the unavoidable truth that without some sort of convenient method for regular people to get regular content onto the player like a movie they shot of their kidsit’s not going to be a roaring success.
Songs are listed in either an ID3 tag sort Album, Artist, Genre, Playlist or presented as the user’s own custom list of folders.

As this iRiver 16 GB MP3 includes crystal clear audio quality, you can blast your favorite melodies and playlists at your riiver listening level. The P7 is supposed to have what iriver calls a “built-in media converter,” which is supposed to transcode files on the go and let us watch whatever media we damn well please.
Also, the iRiver P7 music player is compatible with MP3, WMA, Real Audio files as well as others, so you can listen to a large range of tracks available from different services.
